St Helena has several bird species, with one endemic to the island – the St Helena wirebird (i.e. it can’t be found anywhere else on earth). The cover photo is a Fairy Tern, which is an inquisitive, pure white seabird that nests on land. These are waxbills, quite common and typically found in small flocks:

Locals call this bright red bird a cardinal, and its also known as a Madagascar Fody.
